The Village of Walnut will start the construction of Watermain Replacement in the Spring of 2026 and construction should be complete the Fall of 2026. The location of the work will be on Depot Street from Red Oak Road to Wyanet Road; Franks Avenue from Depot Street to Red Oak Road; Meltzer Street from Franks Avenue to Wyanet Road; Court Street from Depot Street to Meltzer Street; Stephens Avenue from Meltzer Street to Red Oak Road; and Wolf Street from Red Oak Road to Stephens Avenue. The water system improvements is being financed by the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (SRF) Loan program. The SRF program is administered by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and receives a portion of its money to fund these types of projects from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Once complete, this project will allow the Village to continue to provide quality drinking water for area residents and will rehabilitate aging, undersized, and deteriorating watermains. SRF programs operate in each state to provide communities the resources necessary to build, maintain, and improve the infrastructure that protects one of our most valuable resources: water.
